Mackenzie is kind and compassionate to her patients always putting their needs first.
Mackenzie had quite the road through nursing school. Taking a brief break to take care of her mother who was sick and helping keep their family restaurant afloat. She worked as a PCA with me on Ellison 12 while finishing her last year of nursing school. Mackenzie got hired as a staff nurse on our floor during COVID. She has made one of the best transitions I’ve ever seen a PCA make to a staff nurse position. She is kind and compassionate to her patients always putting their needs first. She advocates for her patients and always makes sure they are getting top care, always going above and beyond. She is incredibly knowledgeable and makes sure that she is well educated on the topic.

We have had a patient on our floor who has been challenging for a few months now. He is a dialysis patient. Not only has McKenzie overcome the strained relationship that staff has had with him on our floor, she has become quite close with him, she has also developed a new love for dialysis and is putting her all in to learn more about it.

As far as her colleagues go McKenzie is always there to help. Whether it’s her patient or not. She also treats everyone as an equal. She’ll still help the PCAs when she can like she was still one of us. She is always the first one to jump in and help with a task such as moving a patient or a bed bath whether it’s her patient or not when she could easily delegate it to someone else. Being a nurse was always Mackenzie's dream. With all that life threw at her while trying to get there, she is living out her dream. And as a new grad hired and starting during one of the most challenging times for Nurses, she is exceptional. She really hit the ground running and fell into the role like she was always meant to be there.
